The u3a movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to come together to enjoy good company and to learn together, not for qualifications, but for its own reward.
Formed in 2016, Gilwern u3a welcomes new members and ideas for increasing the number of groups open to all.
Our Ethos
If you have reached the point at which you have finished working full-time or raising your family and have time to pursue your interests or just try something new, the Gilwern u3a is for you. We have a ‘university’ of members who draw upon their knowledge and experience to teach and learn from each other but there are no qualifications to pass – it is just for pleasure.
Learning is its own reward.
Membership
- You pay an annual membership fee of £15 and our year runs to 31st March.
- Then join in as many, or as few, of the Interest Groups on offer as you want.
- The only additional costs are for your own refreshments and the expenses of things you choose to get involved in, such as room hire or transport.
- There are also occasional special events, email communications and a monthly meeting with a speaker which is open to all members.
Prospective members are invited to come along to one monthly meeting for free, and two u3a group meetings as 'tasters' at which they will be asked to contribute towards any room hire fees.
Please note that, for insurance reasons, children or those who do not fulfil the criteria for membership cannot come along to any meetings.
See Join Us for further details.
Groups
Members meet in Interest Groups at various venues in the Gilwern area. Some groups make a small charge per meeting to cover room hire costs.
Groups are organised by one or more convenors who will see to the day to day workings and activities.
Monthly Meetings
Monthly meetings are held in Gilwern Community Centre at 2.0 pm on Wednesdays, usually mid month, unless otherwise stated.
Organisation
An Annual General Meeting is held in April each year, which elects an Executive Committee who administer the Gilwern u3a that year.
