On probably the wettest, coldest and windiest day yet in November 23 the Bird Watching Group held its Inaugural meeting.
We went to RSPB Newport Wetlands to view the Starling Murmuration however who could blame the starlings for having an early night! They flew past us but straight into their roosting sites!
We did though enjoy soup and a fascinating talk on Starlings provided by volunteers at the Centre.
Did you know that Murmuration is actually the collective noun for starlings and an alternative is a Filth? Apparently, with up to 6 birds roosting on a reed stem you wouldn’t want to be the bird on the bottom!
Despite our lack of success on this occasion we are not daunted and look forward to further adventures. If you are interested in joining Gilwern u3a, this group or any of the others on offer please Join Us .

- Visit to Beaufort Ponds Nature ReserveWe had a great trip to Beaufort Ponds on Friday morning. The sun was out and there was no wind, so warm, sunny and still.
