Creative Writing

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
Kay Blackwell Tel: 01873 831566
When: Fortnightly on Thursday mornings
Usually fortnightly on Thursdays at 10:30
Venue: Member's Home

To join this slightly zany but very individual group of writers, contact Kay Blackwell and join us at our next session.

We meet in convivial circumstances at members' homes, taking it in turn to host and provide the ever vital biscuits and other refreshments. We read our stories aloud usually to positive acclaim. We decline to criticise each other's work, we simply enjoy the experience.

Each session will normally have a topic chosen by the previous host and the range of different stories is often remarkable. A topic can yield a dark and brooding murder, a dog's eye view of the world or a semi-biographical tale from someone's past. Normally, a story will be between 500 and 1000 words but longer or shorter is usually fine, as long as we can fit everyone during the session which will last about one and a half to two hours.

We do poetry too and sometimes an exercise within the meeting!

Some of our recent writing prompts have been:

  • A Group Outing
  • An inheritance
  • Jealousy
  • An Anonymous Letter
  • Friends
  • An Adventure on the High Seas

Once a month (except in the Summer), we visit Penpergwm House, a residential care home, and read some of our stories to a group of residents there. We have enjoyed doing so and the feedback from the residents is very positive, including an indication that murder and thriller stories are their favourites.
